When you want to do business, start a blog, or whatever your reasons are for creating a website, you need to know the terms related to websites so you don't get me wrong.

Some of the terms like hosting, server, and domain you will often hear. So, what is the difference between server, domain and hosting?

Difference in Hosting, Domain & Server

hosting, domain and server are 3 things that are related to each other, but the meaning is often confused with one another. Let's discuss them one by one.

Hosting

Hosting is a place to store data on a website. A hosting is stored on a server. Although both accommodate data, the difference between hosting and a server is that the server has a hard disk, RAM to a processor, whose shape and size are adjusted to be stored on the server rack.

There are several types of hosting that you can understand, two of which are shared hosting and cloud hosting.

Shared hosting is an affordable type of hosting that is used by several websites at once. This means that the hosting you use is on a server that is also used by other people so that the speed of the website is divided by other users.
Cloud hosting is a hosting service that is stored on a server and connected via the internet. Therefore, the number of servers used can be more than one server so that when a problem occurs, another server connected to the internet can be a temporary backup until the problem is resolved.

Domain

Domain is a name that has been determined and regulated by a domain name management body. In Indonesia, domain names are regulated by the Indonesian Internet Domain Name Manager (PANDI).

If a website is likened to a house, then the domain is the home address that replaces the “geographic location” of the house which in this context replaces the IP address (IP address).

A domain name cannot be purchased, you can only pay for the rent which has to be renewed every year.

Server

Server is a computer system that provides certain services in a computer network. Its function is to carry out software functions that control access to the network and the resources contained therein.

The server must always be stored in a data center that is supported by complete facilities so that the server machine can work optimally when accessed from around the world and is not easily damaged so that it can last a long time.

Broadly speaking, the server will work when there is a request from a client. The client in question is you when accessing the internet via a browser.

When you use the internet, you can't help but access websites, whether it's google.com, facebook.com, and so on. After that, the server will send information to your device according to what you are looking for.

Conclusion

After reading the explanation about the difference between hosting, domain and server above, do you better understand the differences between each term?

Remember, once you have a domain, you still have to register a hosting account in order to publish a website.

When choosing a website hosting service, make sure the security and speed are guaranteed. Psst, it would be even better if your hosting provider was ready to help you 24 hours a day.
